Visited Gerrards Cross Fire Station with Simon Rouse, Chair of the Buckinghamshire Fire Authority, today. Supporting our local fire stations and ensuring no closures is crucial.
We also discussed the great news about the extension of the Urban Search & Rescue Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service. The Policing and Fire Minister has deferred funding changes for the national USAR teams until April 2025. The Minister intends to seek the necessary capital funding for asset refresh in the next public sector spending review, securing the long-term future of all 19 teams.
I'm excited and grateful for this positive development. It means Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes will retain their first-class capability and team for another 2 years. Huge thanks to Rob for his intervention with the Minister and ongoing support—it made a significant difference.
Rest assured, we'll continue to advocate for the importance of our local, regional, and national asset. We'll support the Minister's case to the Treasury for future funding. Delighted to have visited Gerrards Cross Fire Station and witness the incredible service they provide in keeping us all safe.
